New 'Far Cry 6' Trailer: Is Game Awards Tease DLC or Direct Sequel?

The Game Awards is always filled with major game announcements and developer Ubisoft has jumped ahead of the hype to give us a teaser of a new Far Cry game. But is it Far Cry 6 or DLC or something else? As seen in the tweet below, the next Far Cry game looks like it will be set after the events of Far Cry 5.

SPOILERS FOR FAR CRY 5! Watch Out!

At the end of Far Cry 5, nuclear weapons destroyed everything in Montana and, presumably, elsewhere in the United States. As seen in the teaser video above, the next Far Cry game seems to be set after the bombs have dropped and the area has recovered. This means Far Cry will probably be less Fallout and more Mad Max . I am not expecting radiation and mutated humans to be a major factor here.

Based on the teaser video, players will use non-traditional weapons like a gun that shoots out circular saw blades. Expect to see other cobbled-together weapons like this and Far Cry 5's shovel launcher. You can still probably expect the typical range of stealth weapons, including knives and throwable objects.

While we know this new Far Cry information is legit, since it's from an official Ubisoft source, we don't know if this is some kind of new DLC for Far Cry 5 or a new game. Far Cry 5 already had a full season pass of bonus content, so DLC seems unlikely. The smart call is this will be some kind of interim Far Cry game, like Far Cry Primal and Far Cry: Blood Dragon before it. I bet a proper Far Cry 6 is in development, but we won't see anything for that until next year.

If this is Far Cry 6, this will mark the first time a Far Cry game has served as a direct sequel to a previous entry. We've seen tie-ins that paint the Far Cry games in the same universe, notably the continuous appearance of the character Hurk, but no two games have shared the same main character or setting.

For more information, we'll just have to tune into The Game Awards tomorrow night starting at 8:30 p.m. EST.

So what do you think? Are you excited for whatever this new Far Cry project will be? Do you think it is a stand-alone game or a proper Far Cry 6? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
