Everyone Cutting Professional Ties With Ye, From Anna Wintour to Questlove

Kanye West has seen Adidas and a number of other companies cut ties with him in the last week, but celebrities are starting to distance themselves from him, too.

West, now known professionally as Ye, has made several controversial statements over the past month about Jewish people, Planned Parenthood and the Black Lives Matter movement.

After days of public pressure, Adidas finally announced they were no longer collaborating with Ye on his Yeezy line. As a result, Forbes announced that West was no longer part of the billionaire's club. Clothing brand Gap, talent agency CAA and the production company MRC are just some of the other companies to have distanced themselves from him.

Celebrities, current business partners and former collaborators have also spoken out to distance themselves from West too, in light of his recent behavior. Here's a list of notable people who've parted ways with Ye:

Questlove

Drummer and joint bandleader of The Roots, Questlove (real name Ahmir Thompson) made his thoughts on Ye very clear with an Instagram post on Tuesday.

Alongside a GIF of Jazzy Jeff getting thrown out of the house on the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Questlove listed West's recent indiscretions. "NONE of the above is okay or 'mental problems' or 'where is his meds.' This should have happened a long time ago. Girl bye."

West and Questlove have previously collaborated on movie projects, with both receiving producer credits on Chris Rock's 2014 movie Top Five.

Anna Wintour

Alongside his music, West has made a major name for himself as a fashion designer and collaborator. Vogue editor Anna Wintour has worked with West multiple times, providing him with clothes at the 2009 Met Gala and then featuring his wedding to Kim Kardashian on the magazine's cover in 2014. In September, Wintour modeled Ye's new line of sunglasses.

Now though, a Page Six report suggests Wintour is done with West. An "insider" said, "Anna has had enough. She made it very clear inside Vogue that Kanye is no longer part of the inner circle."

Kim Kardashian

Kim and Kanye were one of the world's most famous couples, but the two called it quits in 2021. Their divorce was finalized the following March. Kardashian, who shares four young children with West, appeared in the rapper's music videos and wore many of the clothes he designed during their relationship.

Kardashian recently tweeted her support for the Jewish community in light of West's continued controversial comments about Jewish people, which were adopted by a hate group during a demonstration in Los Angeles.

She tweeted: "Hate speech is never OK or excusable. I stand together with the Jewish community and call on the terrible violence and hateful rhetoric towards them to come to an immediate end."

Jaylen Brown

NBA star Jaylen Brown has confirmed he is "terminating" his association with West's sports agency Donda Sports.

The Boston Celtics player had initially stated his intentions to stay with Donda Sports on Monday but clarified his stance in an Instagram story on Tuesday.

"In the past 24 hours, I've been able to reflect and better understand how my previous statements lack clarity in expressing my stance against recent insensitive public remarks and actions. For that, I apologize," Brown wrote in a three paragraph statement.

"I have always, and will always, continue to stand strongly against any antisemitism, hate speech, misrepresentation, and oppressive rhetoric of any kind."

Aaron and Erica Donald

NFL star Aaron Donald also co-signed a public letter alongside his wife Erica, announcing his intention to leave the Donda Sports agency.

"The recent comments and displays of hate and antisemitism are the exact opposite of how we choose to live our lives and raise our children. We find them to be irresponsible and go against everything we believe in as a family," the statement, posted to Instagram read.

Contrasting the athletes who are leaving the agency, former NFL player-turned-Donda Sports president, Antonio Brown wrote a statement he intends to stick by his "brother, Ye."

John Legend

Former friend and collaborator John Legend has publicly disagreed with West over recent years. In some ways, Legend was ahead of the curve in distancing himself from West and has spoken publicly a number of times about their falling out and the end of their friendship.

In August, Legend said on The Axe Files podcast that due to Ye's political beliefs and support of Donald Trump, being friends with the one-time presidential candidate "became too much."

Kid Cudi

Kid Cudi was something of a protege of West's, with their collaborative relationship culminating in the popular 2018 album Kids See Ghosts.

In recent years Cudi stated that it would take a "miracle" for the two of them to be friends again.

J Cole

Rapper J Cole made his feelings clear with a lengthy verse on the song "False Prophets," more than likely about West himself.

The two had worked together before, but in December 2016 Cole expressed how he'd become disenfranchised with Ye and his behavior. "When he tell us he a genius but it's clearer lately, It's been hard for him to look into the mirror lately," Cole raps in his diss track.

Camille Vasquez

It was reported this week that Camille Vasquez, the lawyer famous for representing Johnny Depp during his defamation trial with Amber Heard, and her firm Brown Rudnick had stepped away rom representing West.

TMZ reported on Friday that West had hired Vasquez and the Brown Rudnick team to represent his business interests, but by Monday they reported that was no longer the case, reportedly due to his antisemitic remarks.

Newsweek reached out to West's representatives for further comment.
