Does Elizabeth Holmes Have a Child and Who Is the Ex Theranos CEO's Husband?

Elizabeth Holmes, the 37-year-old former CEO of Theranos, the defunct Silicon Valley-based blood testing company, has been convicted of fraud and conspiracy for her role in duping investors about Theranos' blood testing capabilities.

The company allegedly claimed it had produced an innovative medical device that could detect several diseases and conditions from a few drops of blood.

According to the AP, Holmes showed no visible emotion as the verdicts were read.

However, her partner Billy Evans (who married Holmes in a secret wedding back in 2019, according to Vanity Fair) was reportedly seen visibly shaken while getting a drink of water in the hallway of the courthouse during a break after the verdicts were read.

So who is Evans and does the couple have any children?

Does Elizabeth Holmes Have a Child?

According to birth records obtained by ABC News, the former Theranos CEO and Evans welcomed their first child (William Holmes Evans) last summer on July 10 in Redwood City, California.

Court filings showed that Holmes first informed the court of her pregnancy last March.

In June 2021, she was told by the judge that there would be a quiet room for her to tend to her child during breaks in the trial, ABC News reported at the time.

Caroline Polisi, a federal criminal defense attorney, said at the time: "The fact that she [Holmes] is a young, new mother is going to play into any potential sentence," on ABC News' The Dropout: Elizabeth Holmes on Trial podcast.

"Those types of things actually play a really large role in trials, even though they're not supposed to," she said at the time.

Who Is the Ex Theranos CEO's Husband?

Evans is a 29-year-old graduate of MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) with a Bachelor's degree in economics.

He also previously studied Chinese language and literature at Fudan University in Shanghai, according to this LinkedIn page, reported the South China Morning Post.

He is the son of a wealthy family who started the Evans Hotel Group, which was founded in 1953 by his grandfather, the New York Post reported back in 2019.

His father manages the company's three Southern California properties, which include the Bahia Resort Hotel, Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa, as well as The Lodge at Torrey Pines.

After graduating from MIT, Evans attempted to launch a health care startup that would charge affluent Chinese clients a hefty fee to access a concierge style medical service in the U.S., offering "a chauffeur, beautiful hotels, the best health care," an unnamed source close to Evans told the Post back in 2019.

According to his LinkedIn page, Evans later worked as an analyst at LinkedIn in San Francisco, before working as a manager of special projects at Luminar Technologies, a self-driving car company, until January 2019.

An unnamed former colleague of Evans told the Post in 2019 that the hotel heir met Holmes in the summer of 2017 at a party in the San Francisco Bay Area.

"Days later, I was hanging out with Billy and he said, 'You won't believe who I met! She's [Holmes] not as the articles portray her to be,'" the colleague claimed Evans said.

According to the former colleague, the couple got engaged in early 2019 and Evans gave Holmes "his MIT signet ring," reported the Post.

"Billy and the MIT ring, they are inseparable. He always wore it on his pinky finger," the colleague noted.
