Donald Trump Reacts to Mockery of Him Saying Obama Instead of Biden

Former President Donald Trump addressed on Monday the ridicule he has faced over him mixing up President Joe Biden with former President Barack Obama in multiple speech gaffes.

While Trump, the frontrunner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, has been on the campaign trail he has made a series of gaffes in which he continues to mix up Biden for Obama. In a November 12 article from Forbes, the former president has made the mix up at least seven times, with the latest being earlier this month while speaking in New Hampshire. Trump also referenced Obama when he clearly meant Biden, at a rally in Ottumwa, Iowa, on October 1, twice in a Fox News Radio interview on October 11 and three times during a September 15 speech before faith leaders in Washington.

On Monday, Trump took to Truth Social, his social media platform, to address the gaffes as he defended himself and claimed his speech blunders are part of a greater strategy, while also denying he has ever mixed the names up.

"Whenever I sarcastically insert the name Obama for Biden as an indication that others may actually be having a very big influence in running our Country, Ron DeSanctimonious and his failing campaign apparatus, together with the Democrat's Radical Left 'Disinformation Machine,' go wild saying that 'Trump doesn't know the name of our President, (CROOKED!) Joe Biden. He must be cognitively impaired.' No, I know both names very well, never mix them up, and know that they are destroying our Country," he wrote.

In his Monday post, Trump continued to further deny any decline to his mental abilities by stating he took a cognitive test.

"Also, and as reported, I just took a cognitive test as part of my Physical Exam, and ACED it. Also ACED (a perfect score!) one taken while in the White House. Biden should take one so we can determine why he wants Open Borders, No Energy Independence, A Woke Military, High Inflation, No Voter I.D., Men playing In Women's Sports, Only Electric Cars & Trucks, A Weaponized DOJ/FBI, and so many other CRAZY things!!!" he added.

Newsweek has reached out to Trump via email for comment.

The incidents are among a series of misstatements from Trump in recent months that his political foes have sought to capitalize on as questions have been raised about the former president's mental abilities.

"The presidency is not a job for somebody that's pushing 80 years old," Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who is one of Trump's GOP 2024 primary rivals, said on CNN last week.

Additionally, digital rapid response team Biden-Harris HQ reshared on X, formerly Twitter, in late October a post from the DeSantis War Room account featuring a video of Trump referring to Sioux City, Iowa, as "Sioux Falls" before Iowa Republican state Senator Brad Zaun came on stage to correct him.

The former president came under more criticism after he shared on Truth Social last week a medical report saying that he is in excellent health and his cognitive health was exceptional. Since the report was shared it has sparked speculation, with commentators questioning how legitimate it is, noting that it did not include specific test results or metrics on key health indicators such as blood pressure, cholesterol levels or weight.

However, this comes as Biden has also had a history of verbal missteps that have come under heightened scrutiny as he campaigns for reelection.

Trump has seized on Biden's slip-ups, saying the president's mental abilities is a major issue in his ability to govern.

"We have a guy in the White House who can't put two sentences together and who could not find his way off this stage," the former president said in New Hampshire earlier this month.
