Dogs Play Hide and Seek Together In Adorable Video: 'My Heart Just Melted'

A pair of dog best friends are lighting up social media thanks to a clip of the canine duo playing an adorable game of hide and seek together.

The heartwarming footage of a dachshund hiding from his schnauzer pal was posted to TikTok by viickyseco and has already been viewed over 13 million times, with viewers gushing over the animal pairing's antics.

"My dogs play hide and seek," the accompanying caption reads.

Though the idea of two dogs playing a game more commonly associated with human children might seem fanciful, whatever version the two dogs are playing is likely to be of some benefit to their overall well being.

In 2018, researchers from the University of Veterinary Medicine in Vienna found interactive games can help older dogs stay alert and engaged while challenging them to develop new skills.

Across a series of studies they trained a group of canines to use touchscreen and tablet games using their paw or nose. Touch at the right time and a treat would be released.

The dogs that took part in the study soon learned how to play the game, which became increasingly complicated as the difficulty level increased.

Researchers noted that the dogs playing the games experienced a boost in their mood as evidenced through tail wagging and a generally excited demeanor.

The dogs also demonstrated an increased eagerness or motivation to complete tasks while tests showed levels of the stress hormone cortisol present in the canines had significantly reduced.

The dogs' owners, meanwhile, reported an improvement in their behavior at home.

Viickyseco's clip is the perfect demonstration of the power of play among pets, with the two dogs shown developing a raft of skills, whether it be the schnauzer searching for his four-legged friend or the dachshund attempting to evade capture.

In the video, the dachshund "hiding" can be seen peeping playfully around a door frame while his schnauzer friend is doing his level best to find him.

Having peeked inside the door of every room down the corridor visible on the footage, the schnauzer heads to the kitchen where, unbeknownst to them, the dachshund is hiding.

The pet pooch is soon discovered though, prompting a playful reunion with the two pets happily dashing off together as the video ends.

Their efforts have proven popular to say the least with fans flocking to comment on the clip. Oneloveto2MJ said: "This is sooo darn CUTE" with lillian711 declaring: "oh my goodness. my heart just melted."

Philana Marie Boles commented: "TikTok should definitely have TikTok of the year awards and this should definitely win" while taydollasigh praised the dachshund's efforts writing: "he's so elusive the timing is impeccable."

5stuckinreverse was similarly effusive in their praise, and particularly loved: "the way he peaked around the corner" at his playmate. Marzipancake10, meanwhile, was stunned at their apparent ability to play the game, commenting: "They're so clever."
