Dog Spends Years Desperately Trying To Win Over Cat 'To Be Friends'

A dog's attempts at befriending his cat sibling have made their way into a social media video that has melted hearts online.

The viral video, which has been viewed more than 185,000 times since it was first shared to TikTok on January 23, captured the stoic cat staring curiously at the dog before rebuffing his requests to play many times.

Seve the dog left no stone unturned when trying to forge a friendship with reserved cat Napoleon. His persistent attempts to entice the feline included everything from butting Napoleon's nose to trying to sit beside him while he rested on the couch. The pair eventually became close companions and the viral clip ends with a shot of the pet duo snuggling up to one another on a shared blanket.

"When your dog has been trying to be friends with your cat since the moment they met," the pets' owner wrote alongside the vid.

"Please enjoy these clips from the last couple of years," they added.

The post had been captioned "Seve and Napoleon," in reference to the pets' names. The video's creator also owns a third cat, named Woods, who can be seen in the background of the video.

But Can Cats And Dogs Get Along?

While canines and felines have historically not been deemed friends, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) revealed in one of its online publications that the vastly different companion animals can become close members of one family, or at least learn to tolerate one another, if they are introduced to each other in a measured and sensible way.

This crucial first introduction between the future friends or siblings should happen at a quiet time. Both animals should be provided with a reassuring and peaceful environment, the RSPCA advises.

"Choose a quiet time when the household is calm. Avoid festivities, parties, visiting
relatives or friends, and find time to concentrate on calm reassurance for both pets," the RSPCA wrote online.

What Do The Comments Say?

Since being shared to the social media platform on January 23 by @koepkaandseve, the Instagram post has been liked by over 9,000 users. Plenty of viewers have swooned over the pair's eventual friendship in the comments section of the post.

"So I need more videos of those 2. Sooooo cute. Your dog's ears are the best...."cleared for takeoff" and your cat wearing a shirt and scarf. Oh my gosh I can't take it," one user wrote.

Another user added: "So sweet!"

"That's awesome…my dog is the same but my kitty hasn't been as sweet. He never hurts him but he does like to wake him up while he's sleeping," a third user shared.

A different user commented: "Beautiful".
