Dog 'Obsessed' With Swimming in River—Doesn't Feel the Same About the Bath

The internet has been left in hysterics after seeing just how excited a dog gets about paddling through the river, but the same can't be said about bath time, which gets a very contrasting reaction.

Dog owner Trent Jackson, 42, revealed just how much his dog hates the bath in a hilarious TikTok video (@trent.and.captain). The clip showed Captain the American bully looking incredibly worried about being subjected to yet another bath, but don't be fooled by the sad eyes. Later in the video, Captain can be seen happily splashing around in a river and loving every moment in the water.

Captain's very different feelings toward the bath and the river never ceases to amaze Jackson, who told Newsweek that he really "comes alive" in the river and turns into "a completely different dog."

Since being posted in April, the TikTok video has been viewed over 6.1 million times and gained more than 1.3 million likes at the time of writing.

"He's always hated the bath and he has a face of horror and utter travesty when I try to put him in," Jackson, from Alberta, Canada, said.

"But he's absolutely obsessed with the river, and he just loves to get sticks off the bottom. I swear, he's part beaver at times. Whenever he's in the river, he completely ignores everything else; dogs, people, food, it's all irrelevant to him."

There are a number of reasons why dogs might not like the bath, and Hill's Pet Nutrition suggests it could be a result of forming negative associations, the loss of control, the unfamiliarity of it, or perhaps the stress it induces.

When it's time for a good clean and groom, the best advice is to stay calm so they can feed off that energy, make it enjoyable for them with lots of praise and treats, and make them feel safe throughout.

Whether he's having the best time, or hating every second, Captain isn't afraid to show how he's feeling, as Jackson joked that he "really wears his emotions." But no matter where the 4-year-old pup is, if he comes across a body of water, he's sure to test it out—and he'd stay there forever if he could.

After seeing his video go viral online, Jackson has loved the positive response he's received so far. He's even connected with plenty of fellow dog owners who know exactly how difficult bath time can be.

He told Newsweek: "The reaction to the video has been amazing. It sounds like the video is endorsed by dogs everywhere according to the comments, as it seems as though a lot of dog owners can relate."

With over 2,000 comments on the TikTok post already, many social media users lauded Captain's hilarious reactions to the bath compared to the river. One comment reads: "Oh the sad eyes, the crying, the sulkiness at bath time."

Another TikToker responded: "Getting dirty is part of the fun. Getting clean is punishment."

While another person joked: "One thing about my dog is he is an equal opportunity water-hater."
