Owner Heading Out on Friday Night Gets Judged by Dog: 'Appalled'

A small white dog was left largely confused at his owner walking out of the house in front of his very eyes on a Friday night left viewers in stitches.

In a TikTok clip shared to the account @ishihtzunott last week, the Shih Tzu was curled up on the couch, blanket and all, seemingly ready for a typical Friday night at home of resting, relaxing, and cuddling. However, the dog owner changed the plans without consulting Gizzy, and it completely caught him off guard.

Uncharacteristic of the owner to go out on a Friday, she walked past Gizzy and the empty spot on the couch next to her—toward the door. Gizzy was looking her up and down. His eyes said it all—where on earth does she think she's going? The text on the video reads: "When your dog isn't use to you going out. Lol."

Newsweek reached out to @ishihtzunott via TikTok for additional comment.

The dog's eyes were bulging out of his head with confusion and judgment. His opinionated barks were unheard; He was too stunned to speak.

Gizzy is clearly not used to his owner going out. Instead of pleading for her to stay, he let her go. And once the initial shock dies down, he'll be plotting revenge for her after she dared to leave him home by himself.

Viewer Reactions

The TikTok clip quickly reached viral status, bringing in over 7.4 million views, 1.8 million likes, and 9,088 comments as of Monday. Viewers were cracking up at the dog's priceless reaction.

"Baby he is APPALLED!" said a viewer.

Someone else pointed out: "It's always them Shih Tzu's that say a lot without saying anything."

Another added: "He was definitely judging you friend." The eyes don't lie.

"Dog said: 'Where do you think you are going?!??'" one user commented.

Do Dogs Judge Humans?

If Gizzy's stare wasn't enough to prove that dogs can judge humans, a study from Kyoto University in Japan should do the trick. The research concluded that dogs can make judgments on human behavior and competence, an article from the Beacon Pet stated. However, the study noted judgment is a "complex and multifaceted" concept.

The October 2022 study presented dogs with two people—one "competent" and one "incompetent." Both were tasked with opening a food container with the incompetent person struggling to remove the lid. Dogs were more likely to approach the "competent" person, suggesting canines will make conscious decisions about who to approach when they're in need, Newsweek previously reported. The study also concluded female dogs are more judgemental than males.
