Tears Over Why Dog Who 'Doesn't Like Getting Paws Wet' Braves Floodwaters

A dog has moved viewers on TikTok after she showed that heavy rain and floodwaters were no match for her because she was so desperate to reach a toy she'd left outside.

Owner Danielle Brough of Nottingham shared the video of her pup braving the recent severe weather in the U.K., all for the sake of her dinosaur toy, which she didn't want to leave behind. Brough said her dog was trying to "rescue her toy from the flooded garden," although she wasn't so pleased about having to go into the water.

After picking up the toy, the dog stayed on the raised flower bed for safety, as she "doesn't like getting her paws wet."

Many social media users loved seeing the great lengths the dog went to while retrieving her beloved toy. The viral video has been viewed more than 179,000 times since it was posted October 21.

Many dogs loathe the rain and often refuse to go outside when there's a single drop in the air, much to their owners' frustration. While some may hate getting their fur coat wet, for many dogs the problem is often the idea of getting their paws soggy and dirty, according to Hill's Pet Nutrition.

Fortunately, there are ways to encourage even the most stubborn of dogs to get outside by making them feel more comfortable in wet conditions. If a dog doesn't like getting its paws wet, Hill's Pet Nutrition suggests feeding it treats while it's standing in wet grass, as this can build positive associations. Walking the dog in the rain is also encouraged because it can help the dog get used to going outside in all conditions.

Recently, thousands of U.K. residents were left dealing with localized flooding as a result of Storm Babet, which led the Met Office, the U.K.'s national weather service, to issue a red weather warning, signaling a danger to life. At least four people died in the U.K. because of the storm, and more than 1,260 properties were flooded.

After Brough shared the video of her dog's desperation and determination when braving bad weather, TikTok users reacted strongly. In the days since it was posted, the clip has generated more than 9,000 likes and over 100 comments, as many fellow dog owners could relate to the poor pup's struggle.

One commenter wrote: "The face of stop recording and come get me."

Not all dogs feel quite so strongly about the rain. One dog owner commented: "Can say my dog was out swimming in ours and wouldn't come back in."
