Hilarious Video Shows How Dachshund Reacts to Walk Amid 'Arctic Freeze'

A social media video that captures a sausage dog's disdain at having to go outdoors in freezing conditions has led to plenty of laughter online.

The viral video, which has been viewed more than 560,000 times since it was first shared to TikTok on December 24, introduced social media users to Winston the dachshund and his love of the comfortable indoors and what that entails, his fluffy donut bed.

Winston's owner was filmed pulling the dog by his harness and leash while Winston himself stayed put in his daybed, making for a hilarious clip of a man dragging his dog's donut bed across the floor with Winston defiantly seated on it.

"This video was filmed back east in Massachusetts while visiting family for the holidays. Winston is a California boy and does not fancy the snow, or the cold," Winston's mom, Christina Kirkman, told Newsweek.

"He turned three in December and we have been sharing his wacky journey on social media since he was a pup," she added.

Kirkman is a former child actor, best known for her stint in Nickelodeon's long-running comedy series All That, appearing first in season nine.

After building a following on her own social media platforms where she goes by @christinakirkman, Kirkman began showing Winston and his charms off to her digital audience.

"I quickly saw how much people loved him, so that's when the Winston story began. He has actually just been named '2023 Dachshund of The Year' by FI dogs," Kirkman said.

The post had been captioned: "Trying to get your dachshund to go outside during an arctic freeze."

"I traded in East Coast freeze for West Coast rain this year (I'm wearing a harness)," the video's creator, who goes by @winston_da_ween on the platform, added under the post.

Winston the dachshund lives in Los Angeles County with Kirkman and her partner. The pair manage the TikTok account that they've created to share their pet's daily antics and have amassed over 1.4 million followers to date.

Sausage dogs are known for their short stature and long length. Miniature dachshunds, according to the American Kennel Club (AKC), grow to only 5 or 6 inches tall while their standard-size counterpart can reach 9 inches. Their comparatively short height could explain why many members of the breed, like Winston, rarely take kindly to walks in cold, wet weather or deep snow.

What Do the Comments Say?

Since it was shared to the social media platform on December 24 by @winston_da_ween, the TikTok post has been liked by over 20,000 users and commented on more than 100 times. Plenty of TikTokers have voiced their funny takes on the viral moment in the post's comments section.

"Same here Winston, same here," one user wrote.

Another user added: "I have a dachshund and this is nothing but truth".

A third user shared: "That's a hard pass"

"Winston, I can relate to that with every fiber of my being," a different TikToker commented.
