Dachshund Has Precious Reaction When She Realizes They're Visiting Grandma

The moment a dog perked up in the car because she knew they were going to Grandma's house has melted hearts.

In a now-viral video posted to TikTok account @zoey_thedoxie, a dachshund named Zoey was sitting in the backseat of a car, dressed in her Sunday best. She was going to see Grandma, after all.

One minute, the small dog thought it was just another ride. She was showing some attitude as if she didn't want to be there. Then the next minute, she placed her paws on the window because it clicked—she was going to Grandma's house.

Zoey didn't stop looking out the window when she realized. Her eyes were focused on the prize, which was most likely endless dog treats and Grandma snuggles.

The owner told Newsweek via TikTok that Zoey knows she's going to Grandma's house the minute they turn into the neighborhood. From there, it is only about a two-minute drive. But hey, two minutes is quite a distance for dogs to understand where they are located.

Many owners have experienced their dogs realizing they are close to home or near a familiar location when driving in the car, but how? The answer can be linked to their incredible sense of smell.

A dog's sense of smell is about 10,000 times greater than a human's. So while humans may think the entire town or city smells the same, dogs think differently. Their sense is so strong that they think each corner smells different, giving them scent clues to better understand where they are.

In this instance, Zoey picked up on the scent she connected to Grandma's house, which is how she knew they were almost there. Talk about both impressive and insanely adorable. And a majority of viewers who watched the clip would agree.

The TikTok video had over 2.1 million views, 301,800 likes and 765 comments as of Friday.

"These beautiful babies are so smart!! They know!! My Bella doesn't like car rides but she knows particular turns and that we're in her neighborhood!!" said one TikTok user.

Another commented on their similar experience: "YES the second we pull on papa's street, she goes FERAL lol."

Even the official TikTok account for Google weighed in: "Grandma's house is definitely saved in her 'My Maps.'"
