Fluffy Cat Moving In With Owner at College Delights Viewers: 'New Aunties'

A U.K. PhD student's cat has gone viral on TikTok after moving in with her and her five roommates.

TikTok user Megs, known online as @neurology_nerd, posted the video, which has over 500,000 views, with the caption: "6 new aunties now."

In the video, Megs posted a screenshot of a group chat which reads: "Hi everyone! I was wondering if anyone else is taking a pet with them to the house/would mind at all if I brought my very friendly fluffy cat with me to live with us." The replies from two housemates read, "Our only request is cute fluffy photos!" and "omg I'd love if you brought your cat!!"

The video then shows the gorgeous ginger fluffy cat hanging out with various housemates, sitting at the dinner table, chilling on the sofa, in the garden, and getting lots of attention.

Cats are notoriously antisocial, and many people believe that they often reserve their affection for one or two select people. However, like their larger distant relatives, lions, the only big cat to live in large groups known as prides, they have also been known to be very sociable pets.

A study published in Current Biology from 2019 found that cats form strong attachments to their caregivers, similar to those of dogs and even babies. Another study conducted at Oregon State University found that out of the 108 cats studied, 64 percent showed that they were securely attached to their owners, similar to what's seen in dogs and babies.

According to pet insurance company Pumpkin, the top five friendliest breeds of cat are:

1. Maine Coon

Despite being large cats, the breed is "known for being affectionate with other cats, people, children, and dogs."

2. Siamese

Siamese cats "want to be in your lap, on your bed, or at your table—and they want to talk to you while doing it." The breed is also "very vocal and talkative" and "known for the variety of sounds they make, and their willingness to meow at you to get your attention."

3. Abyssinian

Abyssinians "love to be the center of attention, and they're happy to learn and perform tricks. They're usually curious and playful, so while these cats are devoted family members, they can get bored very easily."

4. Ragdoll

"Ragdolls are gentle, laid-back cats that love to follow you wherever you go. They're great lap cats who've been known to greet family members at the door. Plus, they can learn to play fetch," according to Pumpkin.

5. Sphynx

Sphynx cats love attention and "can be mischievous and silly," but the breed is also "very affectionate—they always want to be spending time with you or showing off for you."
