Cocker Spaniel Expects a 'Goodnight Kiss' as Part of His Bedtime Routine

A social-media video of a cocker spaniel demanding a bedtime kiss from his owner has melted hearts across the internet.

The viral video has been viewed more than 129,000 times since it was first shared by @bigmac4paws to TikTok on January 31. It captures Mac the dog tilting his head up towards his owner to gesture him into a quick show of affection. The animal appears to be extremely attached to his owner.

"When your dog expects a goodnight kiss as part of his bedtime routine each night," Mac's owner, the account's manager, shared in the post. It has been captioned: "It's the same every night. He won't settle unless he gets his bedtime kiss."

The American Kennel Club (AKC) says the cocker spaniel breed is happy, gentle and eager to please on its website. The pet registry adds that it is one of the world's best-loved dogs.

"They were developed as hunting dogs, but cockers gained their wide popularity as all-around companions," the AKC says.

"This is a people-pleasing breed. They want to be 'good' in order to please their people, and they are generally sensitive and responsive to correction and a disapproving tone in their owner's voice. Harsh means of correction are not usually warranted, nor are they productive in the cocker," the pet registry adds.

Since it had been shared to the social-media platform, the TikTok post has been liked by over 5,800 users and commented on more than 75 times. Plenty of users have voiced their amusement at the viral moment, or drawn similarities with their own dogs, in the post's comments section.

"I've got a 15-week-old working cocker. After each feed, she insists on giving me a kiss. Such brilliant dogs," one user posted.

Another added: "My spaniel won't step out of the harness until we have a post walk cuddle and kiss on the nose."

"Our girl is the same, has to have her antler in mouth and sat on sofa to get her nightly kiss," shared a third user.

A fourth wrote of the video of Mac's affections: "My working cocker is like this. A cuddle and a kiss before bed every night."
