Child Fatally Shot at Florida McDonald's: Reports

A child was shot and killed late Tuesday at a Florida McDonald's, according to police.

Tampa police were alerted to reports of a shooting at the fast-food restaurant on North Armenia Avenue just before 9 p.m.

Police said they found a child fatally shot in the chest, according to NBC affiliate WFLA.

According to the Gun Violence Archive, a database that collects information about shootings across the U.S., 40 people in Florida have been shot dead since October 1.

The database found that two children aged 0 to 17 had been fatally shot since October 1, although it had not yet recorded the death at the McDonald's restaurant.

Police did not share any information about the victim's age, gender, or name, nor did they release any information about the suspect.

An investigation has been launched to determine how the shooting happened.

Newsweek has contacted the Tampa Police Department for comment.

In August, a man was arrested in connection with a shooting at a New York McDonald's and was charged with attempted murder.

Michael Morgan, 20, was apprehended and was also charged with criminal possession of a weapon: loaded firearm.

The victim, who was later identified as 23-year-old Matthew Webb, died as a result of his injuries.

Webb was shot in the neck over an alleged altercation over cold fries, according to witnesses who spoke to WCBS-TV.

That same month, a McDonald's customer in Georgia opened fire inside the restaurant after he got into an argument with an employee.

The DeKalb County Police Department said the shooting happened "when a male got into an argument with one of the female workers, pointed a gun at her, and fired shots into the air.

"Officers responded and the suspect fled the location to a nearby acquaintance's home. Officers set up a perimeter and were able to quickly talk him out of the residence."

In June, a dispute between a McDonald's employee and a manager resulted in a violent altercation at an Atlanta McDonald's, police said at the time.

Police later learned the victim was the manager who had gotten into an argument with one of her employees.

The manager, identified as Elizabeth Williams, according to WSB-TV, told the employee to leave but the argument escalated when he returned.

When the employee arrived, he allegedly pulled out a gun and shot the woman several times before fleeing.

Williams was later taken to a local hospital where she was said to be in a critical condition.
