Even though we may not like to acknowledge it, most pets have a favorite person. One cat has made no effort to hide the fact that he prefers his dad to his mom in a viral social media video.
The video, which has been viewed more than 6 million times since it was first shared on Instagram on January 14, captured the cat making his way over to his mom, who was lounging on the couch, patiently waiting, not moving, a look of excitement at being the chosen snuggle buddy...only for the cat to notice on the way that dad was also relaxing nearby—and that was all kitty needed to ignore mom and head straight for dad.
"When you're about to snuggle the spare human but remember that dad is an option," the cats' owners shared in the post.
The post had been captioned: "He switched up so quick."
Union Lake Veterinary Hospital writes online that cats will "in a multi-human household" choose one family member that they "want to spend more of their time with".
"According to a study the person who makes the most effort is the favorite," the veterinary hospital adds.
What Do The Comments Say?
Since it was shared to the social media platform on January 14 by @winstonandspooky, the Instagram post has been liked by over 212,000 users and commented on more than 1,015 times. Plenty of TikTokers have voiced their delight at the viral moment, or their takes on the cat's favoritism, in the post's comments section.
"From what I've seen cats seem to prefer their male owners over the females," one user wrote.
"My favorite thing about cats is that you can see the little gears turning in their heads when they're considering their options," another user added.
"You'll never win a cat over by trying to win a cat over. Completely ignore it and as it explores the environment, hope that it finds you interesting," a third user shared.
"Your mistake was looking too eager," a different user joked.
Another user commented: "You need another cat. They usually pick a person. Our first picked my daughter and that cat loves her! Second, well she's not a cuddler, so you may need a three."
