Cat With Own Toilet Paper Roll in Litter Box Wins Pet of the Week

From a woman who paid over $1,000 to bring a stray cat home from her vacation to what happened when a German Shorthaired Pointer tried to walk in snow boots, we've seen lots of heartwarming pet moments this week.

If you've caught your pet on camera doing something funny or adorable, don't forget to send them in to us with the details at the end of this story and they could be featured on next week's Pet of the Week.

This week's Pet of the Week winner is Buddy, lovingly nicknamed "busy Buddy" by his owner Mary Spain. Buddy lives in Illinois with Spain and her husband.

Adopted in 2021, Buddy is full of personality and has some truly hilarious and unusual habits. But the one that stands out to his owner the most is the way he uses toilet paper.

"His litter box is in our downstairs bathroom and of course Buddy was always there watching," Spain told Newsweek. "First he was unrolling the toilet paper from our holder—and no, it doesn't matter which way up the roll is—and he'd drag the toilet paper over to his box."

Struggling to keep track of the paper as Buddy did his best to unravel it at any opportunity, they gave him a small box of his own with pulled apart toilet paper. But he wasn't happy with that.

"I wound up taping his very own roller right above his box," said the owner. True to form, he uses it frequently, using paper to cover his litter box.

Full of personality, Buddy is a true presence in his owner's life, and they love him dearly.

"There's always something new going on in his head, it's scary," Spain laughed. "He also likes watching westerns and movies with tanks and for some reason, stared intently at Wuthering Heights for over a half hour."

Finalists

Our first finalist this week is 4-year-old cat Chewy who lives with owner Linda M in Virginia.

"She is the sweetest most loving kitty," Linda told Newsweek. "She meows and begs for treats before I am fully awake."

Chewy was adopted by Linda and her granddaughter, and today she loves to play and toss toys in the air.

"We love how Chewy always brightens our day," Linda said.

Lucy the dog

Our next finalist this week is Lucy, a Shih Tzu and Yorkshire terrier mix who lives in Buffalo, New York, with owner Kerry Rois.

"She loves barking at squirrels, meeting new people especially children, investing new places, and resting on my lap while I'm reading a book," Rois told Newsweek.

Full of feisty attitude and curiosity, Lucy often shows her owner plenty of love.

"She's a good listener, but she can only be patient for so long. Otherwise she wants what she wants when she wants it," Rois said.

Bubba and Squeaky
Unusual "besties" Lil Squeaky and Bubba. Joseph Bogert

Last but not least this week is Squeaky the pig and Lil Bubba the parrot.

These unusual "besties" live with owner Joseph Bogert in Texas and are very curious about each other.

Parot Bubba will often land on Squeaky while he sleeps, or to stop by and say hello.

"My favorite thing about Squeaky is he loves to go in the backyard and run if you run with him," Bogert told Newsweek.

"In the evening after the sun goes down, Bubba becomes a chatterbox," Bogert said. "They love to pal around."
