Cat Decides to Investigate Sparkling Water, Regrets It Immediately

While some people just love a glass of sparkling water with their meals, others simply hate it—and one cat made his distaste for the carbonated drink crystal clear after nabbing some from his owner.

The cat was filmed "investigating" his owner's bottle of sparkling water, before being shown to immediately regret his decision. The owner captured the moment and turned it into a social media video that has now been viewed more than a million times.

Viewers watched as the curious cat, named Oat, dipped his snout into the fizzy beverage, before yanking it back out with haste. He then shook his head to free himself of any remnants of the sparkling water, while his owner who was holding him laughed.

"Oat investigated sparkling water today," the Bengal cat's owner said.

The video has delighted thousands of TikTokers, many of whom voiced their amusement under the post.

One user commented: "The cat's just like 'now I understand why they call it liquid death.'"

Although sparkling water's divisive qualities transcend the animal world, there's no evidence to show the drink is bad for you.

Healthline writes online that there is no evidence to suggest that sparkling water is unhealthy for those who drink it.

"It's not that harmful to dental health, and it seems to have no effect on bone health. Interestingly, a carbonated drink may even enhance digestion by improving swallowing ability and reducing constipation," Healthline says.

What Do the Comments Say?

Since it was shared to the social media platform on March 12 by @secondplacetheory, the TikTok post has been liked by more than 212,000 users and commented on over 500 times. TikTokers have laughed along with the cat's owner, Hayley, in the comments section of the post.

"She was flabbergasted," one user wrote.

Another user added: "I am not a fan of sparkling water…but I suddenly find myself needing to buy some".

"Oat: IT BIT ME," a third user joked.

A different user shared: "I misread investigated as invented but I still agreed."

"The way oat went right back to looking at it immediately," another TikToker wrote.

A fifth user commented: "WHY IS IT SPICY."

"My cat loves sparkling water," a different user shared.
