Caitlyn Jenner has declared that her former stepson-in-law Lamar Odom "will always be family," after he supported her at a gala hosted by Log Cabin Republicans, an organization that represents LGBTQ+ members of the GOP.
On Saturday, Jenner attended the Spirit of Lincoln Gala, where she received this year's Game Changer Award. Per the Log Cabin Republicans, the award is given to "an individual who has gone above and beyond the call of duty to effectively champion the cause of LGBT conservatives and substantially improve the trajectory of our movement."
Jenner, a 1976 Olympic gold medalist, who came out as transgender in 2015, has been an outspoken critic of transgender women competing in sports against other women. Her stance aligns with the views of some conservative commentators.
At the event—which was held at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum in Simi Valley, California—former Donald Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway received the Spirit of Lincoln Award.
Following the event, video footage was shared of Jenner speaking with a small group that included former NBA star Odom as she appeared to be departing.
"I'll see you this week," she told Odom as she patted his arm before walking away.
Responding to the video clip, which was shared on X, formerly Twitter, Jenner had warm words for Odom, who was once married to her former stepdaughter Khloé Kardashian.
"It was an honor to have @LamarOdom here supporting me—it's always special when family supports family—and Lamar will always be family," she wrote. "Thank you Lamar. I am so thrilled to see you doing so well."
Jenner became Kardashian's stepfather after marrying her mother, Kris Jenner, in 1991. Caitlyn Jenner had daughters Kylie Jenner and Kendall Jenner with the matriarch before their union ended in divorce in 2015. The Kardashian siblings—including Kim and Kourtney—are from Kris Jenner's marriage to late attorney Robert Kardashian.
Odom and Khloé Kardashian tied the knot in September 2009 after just one month of dating. Over the next four years, their life was documented on their E! reality show Khloé & Lamar, including buying a home and trying for children.
In 2013, however, Khloé Kardashian filed for divorce amid Odom's cycle of addiction that nearly resulted in his death.
Odom was rushed to a Las Vegas hospital in 2015 after suffering an accidental drug overdose at a brothel. Khloé Kardashian briefly withdrew her pending divorce papers to take care of him.
"When I came out of the coma, she took care of me. I'm talking about a woman that wiped my backside when I couldn't do it myself," Odom told Us Weekly in February 2022. "So, I'm fond of her for that. She had a lot of dignity and pride as well as I did."
Ultimately, their divorce was finalized in December 2016, though Odom has always been complimentary about the Good American founder.
"I miss their family tremendously," Odom said on SiriusXM's Radio Andy in May 2021 of the Kardashian-Jenners. "We have to live with the decisions that we make and then, hopefully in time, people heal and [will] be able to forgive me."
Odom recently said during a podcast appearance that he wished he "still had my wife," referring to Kardashian. "I had everything," he said of their relationship.
Following their divorce, Khloé Kardashian went on to have two children with Cleveland Cavaliers center Tristan Thompson.
