Actress and model Brooke Shields recounted how another A-list celebrity rescued her when she had a medical emergency that left her foaming at the mouth.
The actress appeared on "The View" on Friday to promote her new movie, "Mother of the Bride." While there, she also opened up about when she suffered a seizure and Bradley Cooper helped her get the medical help she needed and held her hand in the ambulance.
"I thought I was dead," Shields said.
The medical emergency unfolded in New York City while Shields was preparing to do a one-woman show. She said she wanted to make sure she was hydrated, but did not realize that it is possible to drink too many fluids over a certain period of time.
"I started just losing consciousness and just shaking my hands," Shields said. "And then I dropped and hit my head on this counter."
Shields explained that someone at the restaurant she was eating at called her assistant, who then contacted her husband who was on the road at the time. But he got in contact with Cooper, who was nearby and came to the rescue.
Shields also received help from the woman she was meeting with, who happened to be a registered nurse.
Shields was told she was foaming at the mouth and her lips were turning blue.
What Shields experienced was a grand mal seizure, also known as tonic-clonic seizure. It cause loss of consciousness and violent muscle contractions, according to the Mayo Clinic. Low blood sodium, which is a symptom of drinking too much water, is one cause of grand mal seizures.
