Boyfriend Finds Perfect Spot for Proposal but There's a Problem—'I'll Wait'

A video of an ideal setting for a marriage proposal that's missing a key element has gone viral on TikTok.

The footage was shared by @laauramariie and has had 3.5 million views since it was posted on April 24.

A message overlaid on the clip reads: "Bf [boyfriend]: 'this would be the perfect night to propose.'"

A man in the video looks out at the water's edge while standing on some rocks. He says "this would be class" and later adds "but I haven't got a ring."

A caption shared with the post reads: "Go and get one and I'll wait here til you get back xxxx."

The boyfriend's elation at finding the "perfect" setting to pop the big question is understandable because for some, the marriage proposal is just as important as the wedding itself.

According to a survey by The Knot, a wedding planning website, more than half (58 percent) of proposers reported feeling "some or a lot of pressure to plan a highly-unique proposal" and 7 in 10 planned the moment up to six months in advance.

Just over a third (38 percent) popped the question on a planned trip. A fifth (20 percent) chose to propose when they were around friends and family, while 19 percent proposed on a day with a special meaning to the couple.

December reigns as the most popular month to get engaged, with Christmas Day and Christmas Eve being the most popular days of the year, the survey found.

'I Don't See the Problem'

Users on TikTok were invested in the couple's potential engagement, and several said a ring is not necessary to propose.

User mayhilson noted: "If the moment and spot is perfect, why not do it without the ring? I don't see the problem."

Shaylee agreed, saying: "Since when do you need a ring to propose it's all about the question."

"I'm all for proposing without an engagement ring and going to pick one together afterwards," said isladavidson882. The original poster replied: "Perhaps that's what happened here and I am, in fact, due to be wed xxxx."

Clair also agreed, saying: "He doesn't need a ring to propose …" The original poster replied: "Too late now he's gone for a long swim. Not sure when he'll be back xxxxxx."

Rachaelstephensonphotography noted: "I'd take that as a proposal, just an unprepared one." The original poster replied: "So what you're saying Rachael, is I'm engaged."

User aurajade wrote: "That still counts, congratulations."
