Barack Obama's Summer Playlist Prompts Wave of Jokes, Memes

Barack Obama has shared his summer playlist for 2022, continuing a tradition he started during his presidency, and this year's list contains a few surprises that have sparked a wave of jokes and memes from Twitter users.

Up-and-coming U.K. indie band Wet Leg earned a place on the playlist, alongside some heavy hitters like Beyonce, Prince, Bruce Springsteen and Aretha Franklin.

Other artists named in the former president's lineup include Harry Styles, Kacey Musgraves, Jack White and Kendrick Lamar.

Some of the perhaps more surprising additions include younger acts like Lil Yachty, Rosalía, Burna Boy and Bad Bunny, and they prompted some fun reactions from fans.

"Every year, I get excited to share my summer playlist because I learn about so many new artists from your replies—it's an example of how music really can bring us all together," the 44th president wrote on Twitter.

"Obama everytime he tweets out the playlist one of his interns writes up," reads one popular tweet with the "How do you do fellow kids" meme.

While another tweeted: "The elite force of 30-somethings who live in Carroll Gardens helping Obama assemble his annual playlist."

"not one dua lipa song on obama's summer playlist," joked another.

In 2021, Obama's summer playlist included artists such as Bob Dylan, Rihanna, Louis Armstrong and Jay-Z.
