'American Horror Story' Season 9: Possible Release Date and Everything We Know

The world may be ending on American Horror Story for Season 8's Apocalypse, but that doesn't mean it's the end for Ryan Murphy's creepy AHS universe. The FX series will return again after the upcoming season commences for Season 9 and Season 10.

Of course, details on anything pertaining to the AHS franchise unrelated to Season 8 are incredibly limited, and its unlikely fans will learn much about the future seasons of the show until the anti-Christ has his way in Apocalypse.

Season 9 was confirmed back in 2017. The series was renewed for a 10th season back in August. More than likely, Season 9 will premiere sometime during the fall primetime TV season in 2019 while viewers will probably be waiting until 2020 for Season 10's premiere.

There was speculation that Season 10 would be the last of the franchise, however, FX Networks CEO John Landgraf couldn't confirm whether or not the series would go on to Season 11. "I don't know," he said in an interview with Deadline released in August.

"A lot of that comes down to Ryan and whether he still feels inspired by it. I think the eighth cycle, which is currently in production, is awesome and crazy and I think the fans will really like it. Part of what's cool about American Horror Story is its anthology nature. So it comes down to whether Ryan and his collaborators, like (showrunner) Tim Minear, could come up with stories that they are excited about," Landgraf said at the time.

If the previous seasons of AHS are any indication, there's a chance both Season 9 and Season 10 will see some familiar faces. Show creator Murphy has a longstanding history of recycling cast members from various seasons like, for instance, Sarah Paulson, who has appeared on the series since the very beginning when she played the psychic Billie Dean Howard on Season 1's Murder House. She's slated to play three characters in the upcoming season including Billie Dean, Season 3's supreme witch Cordelia Goode and a new character who only goes by Venable. Paulson will make her directorial debut for a Season 8 episode, in which she will direct her Coven co-star Emma Roberts.

American Horror Story Season 8 premieres on September 12 at 10 p.m. on FX.
