Floating Islands

Koh Lipe, Thailand—Rohingya migrants jump into the Andaman Sea to collect food supplies dropped by a Thai army helicopter on May 14. The boat was found drifting in Thai waters, and passengers said several people had died. At least 1,000 Rohingya and Bangladeshi migrants barred from coming ashore have been adrift despite pleas from the United Nations to Southeast Asian nations not to reject them. Thailand and Malaysia have provided food, water and repairs to rickety boats before forcing some ships back out to sea. Myanmar does not recognize the citizenship of the Rohingya, a minority Muslim group with few rights in the autocratic nation.
