In a world of ever-increasing fuel efficiency, there are still certain segments of the market that aren't the best fuel sippers.
Be they off-roaders, performance-tuned supercars or lumbering SUVs, many cars today don't make the most out of a gallon of gas. That being said, the way you drive has a lot of influence on your mpg. More aggressive driving can lead to lower-than-average efficiency.
Here's some of the worst offenders when it comes to fuel economy, according to EPA estimates.
2022 Ram 1500 TRX
The Ram 1500 TRX is an off-roading monster that runs on a supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8, which puts out 702 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque.
A consequence of all that power is that the truck gets 10 mpg in the city and 14 mpg on the highway, making it the least fuel-efficient vehicle in its class.
2021 Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport
If you're in the market for a supercar, gas mileage is probably not your biggest concern. That notwithstanding, the Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport is fuel inefficient.
Thanks to its colossal quad-turbocharged 8.0-liter W16 engine, the Pur Sport is able to deliver 1,480 horsepower and 1,180 pound-feet of torque. That nets drivers 8 mpg in the city and 10 mpg on the highway.
2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk
Tuned for high-speed fun, the Trackhawk grade of the Grand Cherokee is equipped with a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 that puts out 707 horsepower and 645 pound-feet of torque. Outfitted with Launch Control to get the most go off the line, the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk gets 11 mpg in the city and 17 mpg on the highway.
2022 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2
At the top of the trim list for the 2022 Chevrolet Colorado, the ZR2 comes with equipment for the off-roader. Raised suspension, an electronically locking rear differential and all-terrain tires are just some of what comes standard on the ZR2.
The 3.6-liter V8 engine is capable of 16 mpg in the city and 18 mpg in highway driving.
2021 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500
Near the top of the spectrum in Ford's Mustang line, the Shelby GT500 is one of the worst-performing Mustangs when it comes to fuel efficiency. The four-seater, running on a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine, gets an estimated 12 mpg in the city and 18 mpg on the highway.
2022 BMW X6 M
The 2022 BMW X6 M and X6 M Competition SUVs give drivers more oomph per push of the accelerator thanks to their turbocharged 4.4-liter eight-cylinder engine. An adaptive suspension and adjustable driving modes make for an engaging drive, with the M Competition even more fierce.
The SUVs are both rated for an estimated 13 mpg in the city and 18 mpg in the city.
2022 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat
The high-performance Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat, powered by a HEMI SRT Hellcat V8 engine, will get you 13 mpg in city driving and 19 mpg on the highway. The SUV's mill achieves a whopping 710 horsepower and has a top speed of 180 mph.
2022 Bentley Bentayga Speed
Outfitted with a 6.0-liter, W12 engine, the Bentayga Speed luxury SUV is capable of producing 626 horsepower and about 663 pound-feet of torque. With that powerful edge comes with reduced fuel efficiency, as the SUV gets 12 mpg in city streets and 18 mpg on the highway.
2021 Ford F-150 Raptor
One of the bulkier trucks in the F-150 line, the Raptor is a suitable off-roader and a direct competitor of the Ram 1500 TRX. With its twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost engine pushing it through the trails and over dunes, the truck generates 450 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque.
With the straight-from-the-factory setup, the Raptor gets 15 mpg in the city and 18 mpg on highway trips.
2022 Rolls-Royce Phantom Extended
An additional 8.6 inches to the wheelbase of this luxury car adds to what is already a supremely quiet and ultra-comfortable ride. With its 6.75-liter V12 engine providing the power, the Phantom Extended gets 12 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway.
2021 Mercedes-AMG G 63
Courtesy of the luxury carmaker's AMG performance line, the already inefficient G-Class SUV gets a bump up in power from its twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine, putting out 577 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque.
With a performance boost of 161 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque over the standard engine, fuel economy loses out with 13 mpg in the city and 16 mpg on the highway.
2022 Toyota Sequoia
The three-row Toyota Sequoia SUV is powered by a 5.7-liter V8 engine that makes 381 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque. The cost of being able to shepherd a family with that kind of power is lackluster fuel economy. Whether it be the base model or the Sport version with a tuned suspension system, city driving is rated at 13 mpg while traveling on highways will get a small boost to 17 mpg.
